What days and times do we meet for research?
Your research schedule is worked out jointly with Dr. Singhal after you have been accepted into the laboratory.
Based on the nature and timing of our experiments, Dr. Singhal recommends that undergraduates commit a minimum of 6 hours per week (2 hours per day on 3 different days) to make progress in your research.
Do research students get paid?
During the academic year, undergraduate research students take BIOL 180 to receive course credit
for their research work. If you are a Biology major, BIOL 180 can be used as laboratory or elective
credits towards your major.
Funds are likely to be available for undergraduates in the laboratory who perform research during
Winter or Summer terms. Talk to Dr. Singhal directly for the most current information on lab funding.
There are also scholarships that can help support you as a researcher. See the Department of Biology's
Funding Opportunities for Undergraduates page for more information.
Do I need specific classes or skills to apply?
Undergraduates can apply at any stage of their academic career. There are no pre-requisites; all necessary training is provided in the laboratory. You should be curious, eager to learn, and willing to work hard. After you have finished training and can set your own schedule in the laboratory, self-motivation and time management become useful skills.
